Trees
There is no end to my fascination with trees. From quick sketches to more detailed studies, I love exploring the nuances of different species in various media. All were done on-site except for the three highly detailed ones.

This log was sticking out of a stream at this angle. I was fascinated by the barren branches and was able to capture the detail of the bark and wood texture.

I like the contrast of the bark and the rough edges of the cut trunk, and the three leaves coming off the thin branches of this London Plane Tree.

I could not resist this hollowed out stump with rough bark, green growth, and stalagmite peeping through.

The full pine on the right seems to be taunting its sibling. In Pennsylvania.

On my birthday, I headed to Central Park, my oasis in the city to capture a bare tree against a backdrop of buildings.

A tangle of trees in the woods at the far east end of Fire Island.

I have had many opportunities to sketch the pond at my in-laws house in Hemlock Farms, PA. On this day, the wind was whipping the water and the sun was glittering over the surface.

In a first for me, I tried to capture these trunks against a dark background (at the Isabella Retreat Center, NY, while on the Executive Committee for Hazon's New York Bike Ride).

An unsuccessful attempt, I think, at trying to capture the light on the tree trunks.

The ashes of my friend and mentor John Napolitano are sprinkled around the fenced in tree in Prospect Park, Brooklyn — continuing a circle of life, the way he wanted.

Another view of Bluestone Pond in Hemlock Farms, PA, this one with the lone pine growing out of the rocks.

My first and only trip to Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx was with Karin — exploring new parts of the city.

Cancun trip with Amy — then we had kids and haven't taken a real vacation since.

I did this at the Sugar Hill Children's Museum while making art with my girls.

A lone palm in St. George, UT, on the way to Bryce, Zion, and the Grand Canyon.

My messy attempt at a waterfall in very busy environment. It was a chance to sit and listen to the rushing of the water.
